People: Growing Into Their Roles

Hogan’s core values are: Build, Trust, People, and Care. We couldn’t do the work we do without the people on our team, and one way we promote that value is through internal hiring and promoting people who have done great work for Hogan. Three people who have held several positions within Hogan are Joanie Slatter, Jennifer Wilhelm, and Randy Ferrin.

Joanie Slatter

Joanie, a current project manager, started at Hogan as a project assistant, before becoming a project engineer after five years. According to her, one of the best things she did was “paying attention, listening, and learning.” While she worked as a project engineer, she worked with two project managers, who helped her learn to problem-solve, lead meetings, and understand every in and out of project management practice. Since being promoted to a project manager, Joanie has worked on projects such as the Weber High School Teen Center and the Park City High School Dozier Field.

Jenn Wilhelm

Jenn, our office’s pre-construction administrator, started at Hogan as a project assistant, where she learned as much as she could about the industry. She then started training other assistants before earning a well-deserved promotion to bid coordinator. In that role, she worked with our estimating team to ensure bids met all requirements. She has recently been promoted to pre-construction administrator, where she supports the estimating team with bids, manages the project assistants, and assists with the owner’s contracts. Jennifer said she “loves the people she works with,” and that has helped her succeed in her role.

Randy Ferrin

Randy, a current project engineer, started his journey with Hogan at a career fair at Weber State. He interviewed for a finish carpentry position, where he worked for about 18 months before moving into field engineering at Horizon Jr. High. After working there for a few months, he interviewed with Joanie for a project engineer position. When asked about what advice he would give others wanting to move to new positions, he said to “work hard, try and learn new things, and focus on building positive relationships.”
